The Coop Store got a spiffy remodel over the summer, with more display space and more fresh food items. But one part of the product line is sure to remain unchanged: That perennially-popular “Harvard: The Pomona College of the East” T-shirt. Manager Brenda Schmit says it’s a top seller year after year, which got us wondering about the history behind this West Coast boast. Looking in back issues of the magazine, we came across a photo of someone wearing the shirt as early as Homecoming 1978 (above). So now we turn to Sagehens from the ’70s or ’60s. Does anyone know the story behind the t-shirt, or remember wearing one before 1978?
